Detailed Job Description

This newly created Senior Staff Accountant position will report to the Director of Operations in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences Dean’s Office.  As a member of the Operations team, the Senior Staff Accountant will directly support the Executive Director of the new Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI) and its entities:  Research, the Cyber Range, and the Eaton SAFE Lab, as well as the university-wide initiative, the eSports program, to successfully manage the financial resources within these growing initiatives at the university.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Strategically project revenue/income requirements
  • Compile detailed internal financial reports, reconcile accounts, analyze data, research/resolve discrepancies
  • Audit and process expenses in compliance with sponsor/donor/customer requirements and in compliance with college and university policies
  • Support the GCI and eSports in all phases of account management for projects, gift, and grant accounts
  • Support faculty principal investigators in post award administration of grants and contracts
  • Review SAFE Lab testing contract proposals and external grant proposals for financial accuracy
  • Examine accounting and payroll documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Collaborate with Sr. Financial Analyst on redistribution of personnel expenses when required
  • Serve as back-up to the Sr. Financial Analyst and the HR/Operations Sr. Staff Specialist
  • Assist the Director of Operations with special projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Critical attention to detail required
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Understanding and ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced knowledge and experience with Excel
  • Experience with Oracle a plus

Preferred skills:

  • Experience providing administrative support for externally funded grants
