Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops, oversees, and implements a career development program that meets organizational standards and goals of primary funding sources.
  2. Ongoing development and implementation of job readiness classes and other courses in
    career development within the program.
  3. Ensures that youth are prepared for, and connected to, the appropriate educational or
    employment opportunities.
  4. Assist with participant recruitment through outreach to inner-city youth and youth-serving agencies.
  5. Assist with operating a program orientation for new participants and completing intake
    paperwork.
  6. Provide individual counseling and case management for all participants.
  7. Assist participants through transitional phase of program into secondary education
    and/or employment.
  8. Provide supervision and act as a role model while working alongside students on community service projects.
  9. Transport students by agency van to training classes and other program activities.
  10. Documentation and data entry in a variety of data systems that track program implementation.
  11. Monitor participant attendance and progress and enforce program rules.
  12. Maintain concise documentation of the post program tracking system.
  13. Collect and report participant data for the program’s evaluation reports.
  14. Provide classroom supervision and tutoring to youth during GED classes.
  15. Attend and participate in Urban League functions and fundraising events.
  16. Perform such duties as the supervisor may assign.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in social work, counseling or related field; strong leadership skills and at least two years’ successful experience working with youth in a community-based setting.
  • Excellent counseling skills and the commitment to helping young people succeed academically, reorient their lives, develop leadership and professional skills, and make a difference in their communities.
  • Experience working directly with a diverse youth population, preferably within a job development or on-the-job training program.
  • Experience in job coaching, career development, or counseling preferred.
  • Strong commitment to youth leadership and empowerment and ability to work sensitively and effectively with young people.
  • Strong classroom facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in the workforce.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to relate to, communicate with and work with disadvantaged young men and women and understand the issues relating to this population.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to relate well with others, a team player with a positive attitude.
