RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, oversees, and implements a career development program that meets organizational standards and goals of primary funding sources.
- Ongoing development and implementation of job readiness classes and other courses in
career development within the program. - Ensures that youth are prepared for, and connected to, the appropriate educational or
employment opportunities. - Assist with participant recruitment through outreach to inner-city youth and youth-serving agencies.
- Assist with operating a program orientation for new participants and completing intake
paperwork. - Provide individual counseling and case management for all participants.
- Assist participants through transitional phase of program into secondary education
and/or employment. - Provide supervision and act as a role model while working alongside students on community service projects.
- Transport students by agency van to training classes and other program activities.
- Documentation and data entry in a variety of data systems that track program implementation.
- Monitor participant attendance and progress and enforce program rules.
- Maintain concise documentation of the post program tracking system.
- Collect and report participant data for the program’s evaluation reports.
- Provide classroom supervision and tutoring to youth during GED classes.
- Attend and participate in Urban League functions and fundraising events.
- Perform such duties as the supervisor may assign.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA in social work, counseling or related field; strong leadership skills and at least two years’ successful experience working with youth in a community-based setting.
- Excellent counseling skills and the commitment to helping young people succeed academically, reorient their lives, develop leadership and professional skills, and make a difference in their communities.
- Experience working directly with a diverse youth population, preferably within a job development or on-the-job training program.
- Experience in job coaching, career development, or counseling preferred.
- Strong commitment to youth leadership and empowerment and ability to work sensitively and effectively with young people.
- Strong classroom facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of best practices in the workforce.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to relate to, communicate with and work with disadvantaged young men and women and understand the issues relating to this population.
- Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to relate well with others, a team player with a positive attitude.
